  • How much homework will my third grader have?

    Posted by:

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and occasionally on Friday they will have a sheet of Math Homework from their Math Book.  Homework should not take longer than 30-40 minutes. Homework is meant to reinforce concepts learned during the day, to foster responsibility and to extend learning beyond the classroom. Do not hesitate to contact me if your child is having difficulties with homework.

  • How can I help my child with reading?

    Posted by:

Read!  Read!  Read!  It is so important to read with your child every day. Children who are read to or read to themselves greatly improve their reading ability.  Asking comprehension questions along the way helps to hone reading skills. We will do classroom read-a-louds but please take time to read with your child. It will pay off in academic success.

  • How many tests will my child have in a week?

    Posted by:

Students will have a Spelling test every Friday, unless a 100% is earned on the Practice Spelling Test on Wednesday.  They will have a Reading test every Thursday assessing vocabulary and comprehension.  They will have a Reading Test every Friday on a fresh read.  Tests are given at the end of every Math Chapter and at the end of every chapter in other subjects. Students will usually have a two day notice for all tests and study guides for most tests, especially Science and Social Studies Tests will be completed in class and sent home to study from.  Reviewing for tests is considered part of homework.

Snacks are scheduled daily. Water bottles and a healthy snack are recommended. We are peanut free and tree-nut free.  We love to celebrate birthdays. Students may bring in birthday treats for their classmates, but the treat must be non-edible and ready to take home.

  • What do I do if my child is absent?

You must call the school office to report an absence and request homework. Students must bring a written note upon returning to class.  They have as many days as they were absent to make up their work.

There are many ways that parents can help. I will need volunteers for field trips, Art Awareness, classroom holiday parties, and things that come up along the way. Volunteer sign ups are available at back-to-school night, parent night, open house, and by letting me know of your availability. Thank you in advance for your help.  This is going to be a great year!
