1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Preschool Parents, I would like to invite you to participate in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program which encourages you to read 1,000 books with your child before he or she starts kindergarten.
Read a book (any book) to your preschool child. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your child starts kindergarten. If you read just one book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. The key is perseverance. Make it exciting. When your child reaches a reading log milestone, give him/her a reward, such stickers or a small toy.
If you are interested in participating, read the following letter of introduction for more details and use the reading log links on this page.
When you finish each log of 100 books, you can take a photo of your child holding one of the following photo cards. Email Mrs. McDonough the photo and she will display it in the library hallway. This photo is optional and is not a requirement of the program. When Mrs. McDonough receives a photo of a student to put on the library wall, the student will receive a sticker reward.
