Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his own level and reads it at his own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read. AR gives both children and teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. Accelerated Reader offers more than 140,000 quizzes. Use the AR Book Finder to see which quizzes are available. It is very helpful to bring the quiz number (found in th AR BookFinder) to school when students are ready to take the quiz. It is the easiest way for them to locate the correct quiz.
Recorded Voice tests are available for younger readers. With these tests, children can hear the tests read to them through the computer.
SS. Peter & Paul School is using the online version of Accelerated Reading called Renaissance Place. This program has a special feature called Home Connect which allows you and your student to log into a website to view reading practice scores and progress towards goals while outside of school. Your student will be given a user name and a password along with Home Connect information regarding setting up Email to receive your student's quiz results.
